This course will allow students to develop knowledge and skills in the principles and practice of starting a new business encompassing key components required to compile a sustainable business plan.
Topics
On completion of the course, you will have considered entrepreneurship as a career option and will have gained an understanding of how new business ideas are generated.
You will work towards the building of a business proposal, engaging in activities such as opportunity recognition and testing; market research; planning a marketing strategy and reviewing start-up and ongoing finance options.
This will be undertaken in the context of the United Nations sustainability development goals which underpin social and ethical business practice.
Those who successfully complete this course may use the credit towards 19抖阴鈥檚 BA (Hons) Business Management degree.

Learning methods
This module is delivered through supported online learning, via the University's Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle. Teaching utilises a range of structured learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor contact, allowing students to contextualise their learning to their own workplace where appropriate.
A 1-3 hour seminar is planned most weeks.

Staff who teach on this course are a mix of business practitioners and academics engaged in entrepreneurship research. All our staff have achieved Fellowship of Advance HE and many have achieved Senior Fellowship status. This is a professional recognition of lecturer practice, impact and leadership in teaching and learning. In addition, many have featured in the annual Support and Teaching staff with Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) awards voted by the students and organised by 19抖阴:Union.

Materials and exercises are available online, allowing participants to study flexibly and independently at any time or in any place around existing work and life commitments.
